My Favorite Dental Products for Good Oral Health

As a dental hygienist I have tried lots of different brands of toothbrushes, paste, floss, mouthwash, etc. I've learned so much along the way on what I like and what I see that works. In this new stage of life I'm taking a more holistic approach to my families dental health needs. I no longer use mouthwash due to research showing that it can actually kill off your good oral microbiome as well as the bad. Not to mention all the synthetic ingredients that I just don't want in my mouth. I have read a lot about oil pulling and the benefits but have not tried it myself. I just don't think I can swish for 15-20 minutes to get all the benefits, my mouth is already too tired from talking so much! I believe if you stick with the good ole brush, floss and diet control you're on your way to a healthy mouth! So here is what myself and my family uses for our daily oral routine.

Hydroxyapatite is the main component I look for in our toothpaste. I've shied away from fluoride containing products due to many research studies linking it to many medical conditions including but not limited to thyroid problems, poor neurological development in infants and toddlers and reproductive issues. Hydroxyapatite is a naturally occurring substance in your teeth (and bones) that helps strengthen them. I won't get into the scientific details of how hydroxyapatite works but in toothpaste it helps to remineralize and strengthen the enamel of your teeth by replacing what is already naturally occurring there. I love the Boka mint paste and my kids use the Dr. Brite Berrylicious. Another great kid option is the RiseWell birthday cake, it's so delicious my kids just want to lick it off their brush.

My top brand for toothbrushes, floss and water flossers is Burst. Burst products were designed by dental hygienist based on research and a need they saw from their patients. I used to be a "Sonicare is the only brand worth buying" person but after trying a Burst I can say I was wrong. While Sonicare is still a great, however pricy, option, I believe the Burst is superior. The Burst toothbrush is super gentle and cleans so well. I've had mine for over 2 years now and the battery still lasts forever and works like it did the day I got it. Both of my kids also use the kids version of their electric toothbrush and they think it's fun to brush making my job so much easier. The best part about Burst is that when you buy a toothbrush, you're automatically enrolled in their auto ship program. Every 3 months they send you a new brush head at a discounted price. It helps us stay on track with replacing our brush heads. I can't tell you how many times I've gone well beyond the time to switch it or switched it too soon because I couldn't remember the last time I did. You can always opt out or skip a shipment if the timing is not right for you. And if it couldn't get any better, the price is downright cheap for such a good brush. In my opinion it cleans and feels just like the $200 brushes and will last so much longer. Use my discount code SIMPLY for a 40% discount on!

This floss is amazing! It has the cleaning power of waxed floss but glides in between tight spots with ease. My favorite part is that it's black so you can see all that nasty stuff that comes out and hopefully encourage you to do it more often, I know it does me! Same goes for the flossers for kids, plus the nonslip grip handle makes it easy to hold for little hands just learning to floss. Start those good habits while they're young to hopefully create a lifetime of good oral care. Use my discount code SIMPLY for a discount on

This water flosser is perfect for braces, large spaces in between your teeth, crown and bridge work or those that just won't floss (cough, my husband, cough). It has 3 different setting so you set it to your preference. It's crazy how much leftover stuff this will get out after you think you've cleaned well. Use my discount code SIMPLY for

That's it, my favorite dental products for your entire family. We keep it pretty simple around here. Proper use of these products combined with maintaining a diet supportive of oral health, I feel like we're doing our best to achieve good oral health and stay out of the dentist chair. Not the dental hygienist chair of course, go get your teeth cleaned!
